Fraternity and Sorority Expansion Process
As a commitment to positive growth within the Fraternity and Sorority Community, Temple University chooses to carefully and intentionally manage the growth and expansion of this community. Temple seeks organizations whose ideals are consistent with the University and that are willing to commit the resources necessary to cultivate a strong organization. One of our overall goals is to positively grow the community and to enhance the undergraduate experience through expansion. Requirements for expansion vary between councils, but in general, they require communication and full support from headquarters staff, local alumni, and the university community. Organizations will be required to submit evidence of policies and procedures that assist with chapter development related to risk management, leadership development, and academic success.
In order to support the growth of this community, we seek to implement a structured schedule of growth that rotates between councils. In 2014-2015, we welcome Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. to campus. In 2015-2016, we extended invitations to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Three presentations will take place in the Fall 2017 semester as part of the expansion of our Interfraternity Council.
This intentional growth allows for an Expansion Committee to be involved with the review of applications and selection of organizations, and for the selected organization to be successful in its founding. The proposed two-year process would be as follows:
- Semester 1: Invitations extended and applications reviewed
- Semester 2: Presentations and selection by community and Expansion Committee
- Semester 3: Implementation of colony for recruitment of members
- Semester 4: First semester of operations, with the intent of chartering at that time
