Signature Events and Programs

Weeks of Welcome is a deliberate effort to present a unified welcome to new students and is an opportunity for all of Temple University’s departments and student organizations to inform students about their programs, services, and students connect with one another, showcase the many resources available to students, and introduce students to urban living and the wider Philadelphia community.

Homecoming and Family Weekend is a university-wide event made possible by the intentional cross-campus collaboration that celebrates current students, alumni, and Temple family members. Events are offered throughout the week to build community, celebrate Temple pride, and welcome alumni and family members back to campus. Signature events for family members include sightseeing tours of Philadelphia, Family Bingo, and Family Brunch with student performances.

Mid-Term and Finals Breaks is programming that occurs during peak exam time to allow students to destress and focus on their health and well-being.

Night Owl Events are a series of free late-night programs that provides students with engaging social events that occur during evening hours on Friday evenings. These events are alcohol-free programs that provide students with unique opportunities to connect with one another. From First Friday Bingo and various themed nights, Night Owl Events includes free food, fun, and quality entertainment!

Greek Showcase is a program where fraternity and sorority chapters perform in a Step, Stroll, Lip Sync, or Talent competition. Stepping is a historically black tradition characterized by synchronized hand foot movements, along with singing, dancing, chanting, and acting. Many Latinx and Multicultural groups participate in stepping as well. Strolling (also known as Party Walk, Party Hop) is a line dance done by members of cultural Greek organizations; usually done at a party or step show.

Philly Connections is your key to the city! The Philly Connections program provides Temple students with deeply discounted tickets to Philadelphia's premier events! Choose from special exhibits, sporting events, concerts, shows, and more!

Memorable Moments offers students the opportunity to meet others and explore a new country through a cultural exhibition and food at a Philadelphia restaurant.

Service Immersion Program (SIP)  is designed to actively engage Temple University students in meaningful experiences that foster cultural awareness and social responsibility through service, learning, and reflection. Service Immersion Programs include at least 6 weeks of learning sessions culminating in a 5-7 day immersive experience. The destination of each experience varies as does the social justice issue explored by each group. Program descriptions and application instructions are updated each fall and provided on our website. Students interested in participating are encouraged to apply in the spring semester for our programs that take place in the spring semester.

Student Activities Awards serve as an opportunity to recognize outstanding student leaders and organizations for their achievements and tremendous contributions to Temple University and the Philadelphia community. We plan to celebrate the accomplishments virtually this year and invite you to attend. Awards are presented to individuals, advisors, and student organizations recognizing leadership, programming, innovation, and creativity. The call for nominations usually begins early in the spring semester for a late April ceremony.
